The Barbershop Storybook

A new public health initiative.

The Barbershop Storybook is a unique comic book series that takes place in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The stories are inspired by real people's experiences during the pandemic, as well as community research conducted at the Maryland Center for Health Equity.

The innovative series translates public health research into relatable storylines and engages the community throughout the entire process.

We’re reimagining public health messaging with comic books, puppetry, live readings, and more.

The CommuniVax Report

Where we got the sauce.

The books are based on the Prince George’s County Local Report, a 32 page ethnographic report about PG County’s COVID response. The report documents people’s lived experiences during the pandemic with specific attention to vaccine communications and rollout efforts.

It reflects on what went right and what went wrong during these efforts, and offers recommendations to strengthen trust, resource access and allocation, and communication strategies.
